Continental Divide

May 18 - June 9, 2018 Opening reception: May 18, 7-9 pm Performance: May 18, 8 pm gallery hours by appointment

Poca Madre Arts is pleased to present Continental Divide, an exhibition of new photo, installation and performance work by Austin-based, multidisciplinary artist and independent curator Michael Anthony García. The work presented speaks to cultural separation and alienation of the communities of color in the city of Austin, to initiate dialogue about these issues which have arisen from its booming growth. The body of work presented in the exhibition is comprised of photos of site-specific installations/ portraits of Austinites-of-color projected onto their beds and clothing, with a related group of works setting clothing in natural settings along Austin’s Greenbelt. Additionally, a large installation composed of clothing sourced from various parts of the city will serve as a backdrop for a performance being debuted during opening night. The exhibition will be on display at the St. Edward’s University, Fine Arts Gallery, 3001 S. Congress Avenue, Austin, at Texas 78704 (parking on Dining Hall Drive) to be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog.
